Stump Grinding FAQs
How much does stump grinding cost in Middle Tennessee?
Stump grinding typically runs $100–$400 per stump depending on the size and accessibility. Larger stumps and stumps with large surface roots cost more. We quote each stump individually.
How deep does stump grinding go?
We grind stumps to approximately 6–12 inches below grade — deep enough to allow landscaping, sod, or seeding directly over the spot. If you need deeper excavation for a foundation or specific project, let us know.
What happens to the wood chips?
The grindings (wood chips) fill the hole and can be used as mulch. We can leave them in place, spread them in your yard, or remove them — just let us know your preference.
Will stump grinding damage my lawn?
We use equipment sized appropriately for the job and access. We take care not to damage surrounding turf. Some minor tire tracks are possible in soft conditions, but we work carefully.
Can I plant a new tree where the stump was?
Yes, but we recommend waiting a season or two for the remaining root material to break down. If you want to plant right away, full root excavation is an option — we can discuss during the estimate.
